I love making fancy data visualizations, but simplicity and utility are always paramount. I love optimizing processes. I love the programming language R, but I’ve dabbled in Python, Node.JS, and others. I know enough Mandarin to be dangerous. I love the thrill of being lost in a foreign country and using your wits and relying on strangers to find your way. I love Tolstoy, Chinese music, volleyball, and ice cream.

My background is in civil/environmental engineering, but I found I always enjoyed writing macros to automate my work much more than doing the work itself. I used to be the COO of AquaVitas, LLC, a small company focused on utilizing biological and chemical analysis of wastewater to inform decision makers about the health of communities.
